Warren Porter: A safer choice for Anne Arundel County

My goal as your Sheriff will be to provide a safer Anne Arundel County by reducing person and property crime. By building a strong working relationship with surrounding Allied Law Enforcement Agencies, meeting directly with Community Association Leaders, Businesses, County, and State elected officials, we will resolve issues within our community. I will achieve this using grass root Law enforcement techniques, increasing warrant service, and providing the citizens with modern updated law enforcement tactics. My 30 years of experience working on the front line will allow me to achieve these goals. Thus, bring the Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office where it needs to be during these changing and challenging times.

I started my law enforcement career in Baltimore City Police Department.  My first assignment in Baltimore City was as an officer August 1992. This is where I was a uniform patrol officer for 6 years making arrest of violent criminals, enforcing traffic, criminal and city ordinances. I was a primary officer in charge of 8-person squad, became a field training officer while continuing law enforcement education and various certifications. Other training used in my career include active shooter, hostage barricade, critical incident response, weapons of mass destruction, hazardous device detection, high risk entry, and Masada tactical.

My next assignment in Baltimore City was with the Aviation Division FOXTROT, where I was trained to communicate with ground patrol units, became versed in aircraft communications and observer responsibilities. During this assignment I was trained in spotlight and forward looking infrared.

Finally, my career then took me to the Marine Unit where the inspection of Baltimore City waterways was one of my responsibilities.  While in this position enforced of Natural Resource laws with game, fish, and boating, along with criminal law and ordinance codes. I became a Certified Public Safety diver while serving the city as a dive medic, performing recovery, and rescue the harbor. This training led to becoming an underwater explosive device detective, evidence recovery, haul inspector and Tactical Boat Operations Instructor. I became certified as a Marine Technician to help maintain the fleet of vessels and maintained air stations and dive equipment. Another part of the job was working with Homeland Security and US Customs to detect ships for drugs and weapons coming into the harbor.

After my years of service to the Baltimore City citizens ended my service to the citizens of Anne Arundel County started as Deputy in 2013. I first provided protection for Judges and Court Personnel and Circuit Court Security. While conducting visual inspection of all bags and packages coming in courthouse. I provided a safe and secure movement of prisoners within the Circuit Court. During my time in the office, other responsibilities included inspections of all courtrooms prior to start of business day while servicing Civil and Circuit Court documents.

After I accomplished that role in serving the citizens at the courthouse, I was moved to the streets on the Special Operations Warrant Section. Conducting investigations and apprehension of dangerous felons, service of domestic violence papers, child support, and emergency matters were added to my experience. Another task was the oversight and planning of daily warrant sweep operations. Other duties include training new recruits, being on the

Sheriff Emergency Response Team and executing high risk warrants and cell extractions.
